Thrombin (2, 3), factor XIa (FXIa) (3), and factor XIIa alpha (FXIIa) (4), all cleave an internal R369-I370 bond in each monomer of FXI, yielding the enzyme FXIa. After activation from FXI to FXIa, FXIa possesses a heavy chain of 369 residues and a light chain of 238 residues.
